What are You Figuring Now? chapter 4

In 1771 Benjamin was 40 years old. He was still living in his mothers cabin. Benjamin heard shouts and hammering and roaring water. So he went there and met the Ellicott brothers who were building a wheat mill for the community. He heard news about King George who was sending soldiers to the 13 colonies from England. The King was ruling the colonies and the Americans think he isnt ruling the colonies wisely, and they were tired of it and started complaining. Later on More British soldiers came and a revolutionary war was considered between the Americans and British in 1775. They didn't want a King across the sea to rule them anymore. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Indipendance to tell the whole world that King George had not treated them fairly. Now they are now free and independent United States. Andew Ellicott's song had tought Benjamin how to survey. George lent his survey stuff to Benjamin to understand astronamy. Benjamin learned how to predict on eclipse. The most important part was when the sun and moon would rise and what the weather would be. For practice he predicted an eclipse on the sun. After many nights of figuring with his compass and the ruler and the moon, he had made a copy of his drawings, measurments, and figures to George Ellicott.

Killing Reading

1) Use your own experience to explain why you agree or disagree with these statements.Well I somewhat agree because they do have hard times reading because it might be that they're reading a boring book or something that they hate. Some do something to understand it better.

2) Do you feel reading becomes more and more work the higher you progress in school? Please refer to your own experience to answer this question. Yes it does because I read books that are exiting to read and that are my favourites also interesting. If you just stay on the task it might be easier and you get more marks and ideas.

3) Would you enjoy reading "with no strings attached"? In other words, you read what you want but don't have to write a report or assignment once you've finished? Explain. It would depend on what I am reading. I would say no if it doesn't sound interesting.

4) Imagine that you have just finished the best book you ever read. How would you want to share some of your reading experience with your classmates and teacher? (e.g. create a poster about the novel, conference with the teacher, present to a small group of students...) I would probably make a poster.

Blog March 22

Today i worked on how to make paragraphs and how to make a news report.

A Series of Paraghraphs

To start off with paragraphs in a subject or something, make sure you know what you would write. For ex. say if you are gonna talk about some guy who you like, get some info on that person and write where hes from ect. for a biography. If you are talking about what a company does or something make sure to talk about that topic if they're making a product.

For ex of what a bio would look like

The guy is born in England 1967. He was raised in the city......

For the 2nd one- Apple has released a new product or is going to do something new. Then you can go on the 2nd paragraph to talk about it and keep going to the next paragraph.

For a news article you can do the same way, just make sure its about the topic and these could help you out- Who, what, when, where, why and how.-Who are they, What are they doing, Where are they, and how are they doing it.

How to make a good news report

You need to think about what the article is about by looking at the picture. On a piece of paper write down who, when, what, where, why and how to start off with so you can get some ideas. When you are done that write your news report. Make sure you know what you are talking about and put a title so that people will know what you are writing about. You should not put your ideas on the news report.

Snowboard: US star White wins halfpipe gold

Feb 17, 2010
Vancouver (AFP) - Snowboarding superstar and defending champion Shaun White won the Olympic men's halfpipe gold Wednesday, dazzling the judges with his tricks - including the gravity-defying Double McTwist 1260.
White scored 48.4 out of 50 in his second run after 46.8 in his first, which was in itself enough to seal the title. Finland's Peetu Piiroinen took silver with a score of 45.0 and Scott Lago of the United States won bronze with 42.8.
Hot favourite White had the luxury of starting his second run knowing he was already Olympic champion - the same situation he faced in Turin After qualifying in first place, White went last in the final and in two devastating displays the man known as the "Flying Tomato" put himself out of reach of his competitors.
One of the stellar names at these Games, 23-year-old White came to Vancouver as the hot favourite having last month won his third consecutive gold in the X Games superpipe.
The field was missing US snowboarders Kevin Pearce and Danny Davis, both of whom were potential challengers to White's crown but were injured before the Games.
